The City of Los Angeles Deferred Compensation Plan is a voluntary tax-advantaged governmental 457(b) plan that allows you to save a portion of your salary now so you can enjoy it later in retirement. You decide how much to save, how to manage your taxes for retirement, and how to invest.
Who can join?
Eligible employees are members of the Los Angeles City Employees’ Retirement System (LACERS), Los Angeles Fire and Police Pensions (LAFPP), or the Water & Power Employee Retirement Program (WPERP).
Saving early and consistently can help you build a stronger foundation for your retirement. All Plan assets are held in trust for the exclusive benefit of participants and their beneficiaries, and oversight is provided by the City’s Board of Deferred Compensation Administration. With the Plan, saving is easy and automatic. You select a percentage of your pay to save and it’s deducted directly from your biweekly paycheck.
When you enroll in the Plan, you benefit from “strength in numbers” by being part of a large group plan, allowing you access to institutional pricing that is not typically available to individuals or small retirement programs. This means that more of your money is working for you instead of going toward fees.
