Official 2023 Election Results - Active Participant LACERS Representative seat

An election for the Active Participant LACERS Representative seats for the Board of Deferred Compensation Administration was held on May 19, 2023. The Office of the City Clerk - Election Division has certified the election results. Based on the official results, Matthew Benham won the election for the Active Participant LACERS Representative seat with 34% of the votes cast. Mr. Benham will serve a three-year term beginning July 1, 2023.

An election for the Active Participant LACERS Representative seat for the Board of Deferred Compensation Administration (Board) was held on May 19, 2023. Based on unofficial results tabulated by the Office of the City Clerk - Election Division (City Clerk), Matthew Benham won the election. Mr. Benham will serve a three-year term beginning July 1, 2023. Official election results will be certified by the City Clerk within 14 calendar days after the election.

Election Day is Friday, May 19, 2023. In order to be counted, ballots must be received by the Office of City Clerk - Election Division no later than Friday, May 19, 2023, at 5:00 p.m.

Following the candidate nominating period for the Active Participant Los Angeles Fire and Police Pensions (LAFPP) Representative seat on the Board of Deferred Compensation Administration (DCP Board), no applicants submitted the required materials to qualify for candidacy. Accordingly, the election for the Active Participant LAFPP Representative Board seat scheduled for Friday, May 19, 2023 is cancelled.

The Office of the City Clerk – Election Division, on behalf of the City of Los Angeles Deferred Compensation Plan (the “DCP”), will be administering an election for the Board of Deferred Compensation Administration (“Board”).

This election will be for the following seats:

  • Active Participant Los Angeles City Employees Retirement System (LACERS) Representative — Three year commitment beginning July 1, 2023 and will end on June 30, 2026.

    • Note: this position represents the interest of DCP participants who are LACERS members on the DCP Board only and holds no responsibilities toward the LACERS organization.

  • Active Participant Los Angeles Fire and Police Pensions (LAFPP) Representative — Three year commitment beginning July 1, 2023 and will ending June 30, 2026.

    • Note: this position represents the interest of DCP participants who are LAFPP members on the DCP Board only and holds no responsibilities toward the LAFPP organization.

Active Participant LACERS Representative Board Seat Eligibility

You are eligible to run as a candidate for the Active Participant LACERS Representative Board seat if you:

    • Are an active participant of the DCP with an account balance; and
    • Are an active member of LACERS.

To qualify to be placed on the official ballot, you must:

    • Obtain a minimum of 50 but not more than 100 valid signatures from active DCP participants who are also active members of LACERS. As designated by the DCP Board, signatures may be collected in-person and/or electronically using the appropriate forms.
    • Candidate materials will be made available beginning Thursday, March 23, 2023.
    • Candidate materials must be returned to DCP staff no later than Thursday, April 6, 2023 at 4:00 p.m.

Time Committment

  • Monthly Board meetings (approximately two hours in length, on the third Tuesdays of the month)
  • Two to four hours a month reviewing DCP Board and Committee meeting materials
  • Periodic special DCP Board and Committee meetings as needed

ELECTION CALENDAR HIGHLIGHTS

  • May 1, 2023 – Ballots and voting instructions will be mailed to eligible participants.
  • May 19, 2023 - Election Day; all ballots must be received by the Office of the City Clerk - Election Division during regular office hours.
  • May 30, 2023 - The Office of the City Clerk – Election Division will certify the results to the Board of Deferred Compensation Administration within fourteen (14) calendar days after the election. The Active Participant LACERS Representative candidate and Active Participant LAFPP Representative candidate who receives the most votes of all votes cast shall be declared elected for the respective constituent group.

Voting and Election Day

Ballots and voting instructions will be mailed to eligible participants on May 1, 2023.

A ballot containing the names of Active Participant LACERS Representative candidates, voting instructions, and any statements of qualification will be mailed to the home address of DCP participants with an account balance who are also active members of LACERS as of 30 days prior to Election Day.

A ballot containing the names of Active Participant LAFPP Representative candidates, voting instructions, and any statements of qualification will be mailed to the home address of DCP participants with an account balance who are also active members of LAFPP as of 30 days prior to Election Day.

Completed ballots must be received by the Office of the City Clerk - Election Division by Friday, May 19, 2023 at 5:00 p.m. by mail or hand delivery to the contactless mail slot at the front door of:

Eligible voters may set up an appointment with the Office of the City Clerk – Election Division by emailing Clerk.ElectionAdmin@lacity.org or calling (213) 978-0440 to obtain a replacement ballot for damaged, spoiled, or lost/non-received ballots, upon filing an Affidavit of Loss/Non-Receipt no later than May 19, 2023, with enough time to have completed ballots received by the Office of the City Clerk - Election Division by May 19, 2023 at 5:00 p.m.

New DCP participants who become eligible within 30 days of Election Day and who wish to vote, must obtain a certificate verifying their eligibility to vote by contacting Mindy Lam at the DCP at (213) 978-1644 or via email at LA457@lacity.org. Eligible voters may present the certificate to the Office of the City Clerk – Election Division to receive a ballot by calling (213) 978-0440 to make an appointment.
